As the only certified PADI Diving Resort on Ono Island, we offer a professional, safe and relaxed scuba diving in Fiji experience. We have intimate and comprehensive knowledge of the Great Astrolabe Reef so always know the best sites for the daily weather conditions. Given the small size of the Resort and the large size of the dive boat, diving and snorkeling group sizes are always relaxed and comfortable. Most of our dive sites can be snorkeled giving options for the diver and non-diver alike.
We have an amazing house reef and you can snorkel with manta rays some times of the year and well as special outer reef marine reserves, bird island and you can also join the dive boat any morning as nearly ALL our dive site are awesome snorkeling spots as well. The best place to snorkel at Mai Dive is 30 meters from your accommodation.
We have a selection of snorkeling gear to rent out if you do not have your own.
Charters one of our boats and our local guides that know the reef inside and out. All of them have grown up fishing on the Astrolabe Reef every day of their lives. They fish to feed their families and have been doing this for generations. Our guests in the past have been people come who really know how to fish and bring their own gear then hire one of our boats for a half day multiple times during their stay. They have the boat and the boat man to themselves and end up bringing back a bounty of fish that all of the guests at the Resort have have enjoyed.
One of the best kept secrets is the amazing house reef directly in front of the Resort. It starts 20 to 30 meters away for the water line on the beach and extends out for nearly 1 kilometer. Many guests fill their days with boat trips and only explore the house reef towards the end of their holiday. Many lament that they did not take advantage of what was right out their front door. The Resort has double kayaks with small anchors attached (please be careful where you place them) for you to paddle out and snorkel around.
For the great view of the reef structure, look at satellite view on Google Maps.
A remote island beach all to yourself – how does that sound? We pack your lunch and you can stay as long as you like – bring a kayak and a couple of comfy chairs. What more could you ask for? We usually take people to the island where the Manta Ray cleaning station is – so if they are around – you could get to see them all on your own.
The waterfall trek is special. It’s a short boat ride to Kadavu, then kayak through a mangrove and finally trek through the rain forest. What awaits is a beautiful, fresh, clean and cool waterfall to relax in. Being out in nature is wonderful thing to do after lunch in the heat of the day- the waterfall refreshes and revives.
Take a short boat ride around the top of Ono Island to see a beautiful sunset. Yabu Island (Bird Island) is the perfect spot to watch thousands of birds come to nest at the end of the day. It a great way to wind down just before returning to the Resort for an amazing dinner. The moon rises can be equally spectacular! If you are lucky you may get to see both. There is something about being on the water in a beautiful place, nestled among the Ono Island Group to take in a sunset and a few refreshments!
